Colonial Lighting
Colonial lighting is a term used to describe wood and/or metal fixtures which tend to be simple in design. These fixtures often sport a Williamsburg center ball, scroll style arms with candelabra candles, and a candle style bulb. Metal finishes range from highly polished brass to a very primitive black. Wood finishes can be a simple stain finish or an antique crackle paint.
Primitive Lighting
Primitive lighting describes a style of lighting that features hand chipped and heavily distressed wood turnings that are hand finished by artisan painters. Milk paint is often used to create an authentic, heirloom quality crackle or rub finish. Because these fixtures are hand finished no 2 are exactly alike, giving the consumer a one-of-a-kind piece.
The primitive color palette tends to favor, blacks, reds, & mustards with a sprinkling of other colors mixed in. Whites are often totally absent or on occasion you have an off-white such as buttermilk.
To complete the primitive appearance, chandelier and pendant arms are formed from blackened steel and then equipped with candle pans and candelabra sockets and drip sleeves.
Country Lighting
Country lighting is often the term used to describe punched tin fixtures in assorted finishes ranging from rusty to an almost galvanize look known as country tin. Punched tin lighting is available in chandeliers, ceiling lights, pendants, sconces, lamps and lanterns. Irvin’s Country Tinware offers an excellent collection of country lighting.
